Dam discharge worsens flooding havoc in central Vietnam province

Flood-weary residents of Thanh Hoa blame heavy rains and water discharge by local hydprower dams for their prolonged suffering.
On Saturday, although the floodwaters triggered by heavy rains over the past four days started receding, many villages in hardest-hit Cam Thuy, a mountainous district to northwest of Thanh Hoa, were still submerged in muddy waters.Tran Duc Luong, vice chairman of the district, said the floods isolated many villages and towns, bringing misery and difficulties for local residents lives.

As of Saturday, flash floods in Thanh Hoa had left six people dead and seven others missing, collapsed 120 houses, washed away three suspension bridges and inundated the houses of nearly 4,600 families.
The floods were considered the worst in years and came in fast, leaving many people at the drop of a hat. Local residents only managed to save their lives and didnt have enough time take out of their belongings.According to local residents, heavy downpours and water discharge from local hydropower dam were to blame for the floods.
