Da Nang, Vietnam's third major city, plans to hire two Singaporean companies to make adjustments to its master plans.

The central city will ink contracts with Sakae Corporate Advisory and Surbana Jurong. The former provides corporate advisory and strategic investor relations services to fast-growing companies in emerging markets, while the latter builds homes, designs cities, and improves infrastructure for sustainable industrial development and urban living.

Sakae Corporate Advisory will provide advice on economic development strategies until 2030 while Surbana Jurong will do the same for formulating general plans.

Earlier this month, the central government had decided that Da Nang has to revise its general plans from now until 2030 with a vision until 2045.

The plan will apply to the whole of Da Nang, which has a total area of 128,543 hectares (318 arces).

It is expected that the city’s population will rise from more than one million at the present to 1.6 million by 2020, including 1.3 million in urban areas. By 2030, this will rise to 2.5 million.

The plan adjustments should contain solutions to tackling key problems like infrastructure overload, climate change response and environmental protection, the central government has said.

In December last year, Australian travel website Finder chose Da Nang as one of the best travel destinations for 2019, recommending it as a beautiful beach destination as well as a transit to the ancient town Hoi An, an hour's drive away.
