Da Nang records highest single-day coronavirus tally in new wave

Da Nang recorded 50 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday alone, the highest number of recorded infections observed over a 24-hour period since the fourth wave hit the city.

Of the cases, 10 were detected in the community, one in a locked down area and 39 in quarantine areas, according to the municipal Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

Since the fourth wave struck in late April, Da Nang has recorded 764 Covid-19 cases. Multiple clusters in the city have been detected, including communities in Cam Le District, Tho Quang fishing port, Da Son abattoir and Hoa Khanh industrial park.

Over 3,000 close contacts of coronavirus cases are in isolation. Hospitals and medical facilities across the city have tested over 2,300 for the coronavirus over the past 24 hours.

Vietnam has recorded 119,812 local Covid-19 cases in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces since the new wave started over three months ago.

HCMC accounts for most cases, 78,904, followed by Binh Duong with 9,946.
