Da Nang man faces charges after drunk driving accident kills three

A man in Da Nang is under investigation by local police for killing three pedestrians while driving under the influence of alcohol.

At around 5:20 p.m. on December 16 last year, Truong Van Nhat, 27, was driving a pickup truck on Quang Nam Road towards Mai Dang Chon Street. As the vehicle approached the Dong Khoa Bridge, Nhat rammed into two motorbikes, killing Nguyen Tan Khoa, 48, Le Thi Thanh Nga, 44, and Vo Thi Hong Suong, 25.

Nhat did not stop, but continued to drive down the road, dragging the motorbikes and their riders underneath his vehicle and killing them.

When he tried to escape witnesses at the scene stopped him and handed him over to the police. Ngu Hanh Son District Police said Nhat had an alcohol level at 1.288 mg per liter of breath at the time.

Anyone driving with alcohol present in their body would face either fines or criminal charges in accordance with Vietnamese law.

Land traffic violations that cause the death of at least three people may result in jail sentences between 7-15 years.
