Woman in southern Vietnam arrested for fraudulent charity fundraising

Huynh Phuong Thuy was arrested Wednesday for "fraudulent appropriation of property."

Police said since early last year, Thuy created several Facebook accounts under different names.

She then copied and reshared distressing circumstances on the accounts, including stories of poor people in sickness that could not afford treatments, and called for donations to help.

As a result, hundreds of people sent money to the bank accounts she provided. In all, she collected VND140 million.

She spent all the money on her own purchases.
