Hoang Thi La Hang, 32, was taken into custody on Wednesday by Quang Tri Provincial Police on charges of fraudulent appropriation of property.
According to investigators, between May and October 2024, Hang promised to facilitate labor export documents for a local man, enabling him to work in the U.S.
Trusting her claims, the man's family repeatedly provided money to cover "processing fees".
After receiving over VND500 million ($20,000) from them, Hang allegedly embezzled the funds for personal use.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
