Nguyen Thuy Trang is now under investigation for "intentional infliction of injury," authorities announced Wednesday.
According to the police report, on the evening of Dec. 30, Trang and her husband were waiting on their motorbike at a railway crossing on Kha Van Can Street, Thu Duc City.
There are two rail tracks running on two opposite directions, and one barrier outside each track.
As a train was approaching on one of the tracks and the barrier was lowered, a couple had already entered the buffer area between the two tracks and attempted to lift the barrier outside the other track, where no train was approaching, to exit. At that point, 49-year-old railway guard Hoang Thi Binh intervened and stopped them.
Trang, who was seated on the back of her husband's motorbike, witnessed the incident and said to Binh, "Let them through, why are you being so strict?"
Binh reportedly responded, "You don't know anything, just be quiet."
Upset by the response, Trang got off the motorbike, approached Binh, and assaulted her by repeatedly punching her face, pulling her hair, and kneeing her.
Security camera footage revealed that during the altercation, Binh attempted to defend herself using an LED lamp box but failed to land any hits on Trang.
Binh was later hospitalized with a broken nose and subsequently filed a criminal complaint, requesting legal action against Trang.
