A commune chairman in central Nghe An Province was arrested Thursday for allegedly transporting over 35 kg of drugs.

Mua Ba Vu, chairman of Na Ngoi Commune, and an accomplice were detained by Nghe An police to be investigated for illegal narcotics transportation. Vu became the chairman of the Na Ngoi People’s Committee two years before his arrest.

Police intercepted Vu during an ambush operation, stopping a pickup truck he was traveling in on suspicion of carrying illegal goods. As officers approached, Vu and his accomplice attempted to flee but were stopped.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered over 35 kg of synthetic drugs and four packages of heroin concealed in various compartments. Authorities are now processing Vu's suspension as part of the investigation.
