During surprise inspections on May 20, the Da Nang Market Management Department raided several fashion stores in central Hai Chau District, home to popular tourist streets like Tran Phu, Hung Vuong, and Nguyen Thai Hoc. Officials seized around 2,000 fake products, including bags, shoes and wallets labeled as high-end European brands.
At one store, Black Label on Tran Phu Street, officers reported evasive behavior as staff attempted to hide merchandise and block access during the raid. Despite these actions, the store continued serving foreign tourists with bags and purses mimicking designer labels.
Inspectors found a counterfeit Chanel 22 bag priced at VND8.6 million (US$331), compared to its authentic value of VND162 million ($6,236), a staggering 95% price difference.
Another store, CoCo Accessory & Bag, was selling knock-off products for as low as a few hundred thousand dong. Two more outlets, Gu on Hung Vuong and Mirror Shop on Nguyen Thai Hoc, also stocked items of unclear origin branded as Hermès, Dior and other luxury names.
Tran Viet Hung, head of Da Nang's market management, said the crackdown aims to protect consumers and uphold the integrity of products sold in Vietnam. Authorities plan to continue unannounced inspections and educate shop owners in tourist areas about legal standards and brand protection.
