A man who shot dead a 22-year-old woman following a quarrel at a birthday party has been arrested after one week at large.

Dinh Xuan Sang, 40, a resident in Ha Nam Province that borders Hanoi, was arrested on midnight Wednesday near the border of Vietnam and Cambodia in the southern province of Long An.

It is not clear if he was attempting to flee to Cambodia.

Sang is the third and last suspect in a case in which a 22-year-old woman in Hanoi was shot dead on the early morning of July 3.

The other two are Vu Thanh Quang, 30, and Nguyen Xuan Dat, 33, who both reside in Hanoi.

At around 7:30 p.m. on July 2, the victim and several female friends attended a birthday party at a venue in Tay Ho District.

At 1 a.m. the following morning, the group went to one of the friends' houses in Long Bien District and were joined by Quang and Sang. The two men are acquaintances of the hostess.

As the two men were about to leave the party that morning, one of the women made a remark that offended them.

The men then returned to their place and asked Dat to join them for revenge, police said.

All three men got into a car with a pellet gun and went back to the house in Long Bien District.

When they encountered the group of women in front of the house, Sang asked them to stop and talk, but they ran in different directions.

One of the women was driven away on a motorbike by her boyfriend.

Sang drove the car and chased after them to an alley on Ngoc Thuy Street where he encountered a couple.

He opened fire with the pellet gun and hit the woman, sitting on the back of the motorbike.

The victim was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Police arrested Quang on the evening of July 3 in northern Nam Dinh Province while he was attempting to flee to Ho Chi Minh City. Dat turned himself in on July 5.

Police are continuing the investigation.
