Monk accused of sexually abusing girl and 3 boys

Doan Quoc Thai, 47, was charged with "rape of a person under 16" and "engaging in other sexual activities with a person aged from 13 to under 16" by prosecutors of An Giang.

Thai, whose Buddhist name is Thich Phuoc Tri, practiced at the Thanh Hoa Pagoda in Cho Moi District. The three children he abused are now aged 12-20, and often came to the pagoda to do charity work, such as cleaning.

From April 2018 to July 2024, Thai had sexually abused the children while adults were not present. He also recorded what happened with his phone. He would give the children money after abusing them.

When parents reported about the matter, Thai turned himself in to the local police.
