Police of HCMC on Saturday were hunting for a 33-year-old man for his potential connection to the murder of a 19-year-old woman at an apartment on Nguyen Van Khoi Street in the city. Security camera footage revealed that the man, the victim's brother-in-law, came to the apartment before the woman's body was found. He was seen leaving the apartment with the woman's motorbike.
By Saturday noon, a source said the suspect had entered a motel in Vinh Long Province, around 130 km from HCMC, and killed himself. An investigation is ongoing.
The victim's family said the man had been married to the victim's older sister for around three years. The couple used to rent an apartment, and the 19-year-old woman came to live with them last year after entering university.
When the wife gave birth, the couple moved back to their hometown in the Mekong Delta's Tra Vinh Province, with the 19-year-old woman staying at the apartment. She invited a relative to live with her as she was afraid of living alone.
The suspect, who worked as a driver, left house a week prior and lost contact with his family.
The 19-year-old woman was found in her room Friday night with multiple injuries on her body. She was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The police said she was murdered and her motorbike had been taken away.
