A man in northern Quang Ninh Province was detained for sending people to South Korea as tourists so that they could stay and work illegally.

Le Sy Dong, 40, was detained by the police of Quang Ninh on Wednesday for organizing illegal emigration.

Dong’s wife, Bui Thi Thuy Hanh, director of the Bao Minh Group company, along with nine others had been arrested in May.

Authorities said Dong and his wife had cooperated with others in Hai Phong and Nghe An to search for people who wanted to go to South Korea for work.

Dong then collected money and created profiles for several of these people, then helped them emigrate through the Bao Minh Group company.

Once they got to South Korea, the workers would try to stay in the country illegally.

The police said several people had given Dong money, but so far had not been able to emigrate to South Korea. They had also not been able to collect their down payments.
