Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested a man for assaulting a security guard who struck the unleashed dog of his American girlfriend on Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

Tuong Chi Huy, 26, was arrested on Friday and is being investigated for "intentionally causing injury." The arrest came a day after Huy allegedly knocked the guard unconscious during an altercation.

Huy and his American girlfriend were walking near Nguyen Hue Walking Street when the dog, which was in the woman's arms, jumped down and ran around.

Chinh, a 58-year-old security guard on duty in the area, approached the couple and asked them to control their dog. He also used a plastic stick to strike the dog, which led to the woman cursing at him.

Huy then confronted the guard, pushing him, according to witnesses. The guard ran to a nearby tree to retrieve his iron rod.

However, Huy charged at him, grabbed the rod, and struck Chinh in the head, causing the guard to bleed heavily and lose consciousness.

Security carmera footage shows Tuong Chi Huy beating a guard on HCMC's Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Feb. 27, 2025.

Security camera footage showed that during the altercation, Huy's girlfriend appeared to make agitating gestures and exhibit hostile behavior.
