Malaysian pharmacist murdered in Australia by homeless man

Kum Chuan Leong was found dead inside his townhouse in Bellfield by a friend last Wednesday, news outlet 7News reported. He had been working as a pharmacist at Eastern Health since early 2021, Eastern Health chief executive David Plunkett said.

Police alleged that Leong was repeatedly stabbed the night before his body was discovered. The accused, 54-year-old Simon Hunter, who has no fixed address, was apprehended at a park near Leong’s residence.

Hunter has been charged with murder by a local court.

His lawyer informed the court that Hunter, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, had not taken his medication for two weeks prior to the incident.

Hunter is scheduled to appear in court again in January 2025, The Independent reported.
