Police in the central province of Quang Nam arrested a Malaysian and a Chinese national on Tuesday for stealing credit card information and using it to purchase electronics, which they later sold for cash.

The suspects, identified as Lim Jian Wing, 27, from Malaysia, and Wang RuiJie, 34, from China, face charges of property appropriation using a computer network, telecommunications network or electronic device.

Authorities alleged that Lim and Wang had entered Vietnam and engaged in various schemes to steal credit card information from multiple victims. Since they could not withdraw cash using the stolen cards, they used them to buy phones and laptops, which they then sold.

In a recent incident, Lim and Wang allegedly posed as bank employees to steal the credit card information of a man in northern Quang Ninh Province. On July 24, they used the information to purchase two iPhones worth around VND70 million ($2,816) from a shop in Hoi An. However, the shop's employees grew suspicious and reported the transaction to the police.

During questioning, Lim and Wang admitted to making similar purchases at various stores in Quang Nam and nearby Da Nang in June and July, spending over VND500 million in total.
