A man in central Vietnam told police he began stealing helmets from couples at a popular dating spot as "revenge" after a recent breakup.

Duong Quang Thien, 21, and his accomplice Mai Thanh Quyet, 20, both residents of Quang Ngai Province, have been charged with property theft, police said Monday.

Authorities noted that while the thefts did not result in significant material losses, the acts were deviant and warranted strict handling to deter similar behavior.

Thien, upset over his breakup, convinced Quyet to join him in targeting areas where couples often gathered. The two stole helmets left on parked motorbikes.

Last Saturday night, they were caught by police while attempting to hide stolen helmets near the "Love Bridge" in Truong Quang Trong Ward, Quang Ngai City.

During questioning, the pair admitted to stealing helmets on more than 10 occasions as a form of "revenge on couples in love."
