Hanoi police are investigating a local man for assaulting a 12-year-old boy at an apartment complex in August, allegedly in retaliation for a football game dispute that left his son injured.

Nguyen Tien Dat, 34, is being investigated for "intentionally causing injury", according to a statement from the police on Monday.

The incident occurred on Aug. 18 when Dat's 11-year-old son was involved in a conflict with the 12-year-old boy during a football game at a residential complex on Linh Nam Street in Hoang Mai District.

After his son returned home with a bruised face, Dat became enraged and decided to confront the boy. He took his son back to the complex on a motorbike.

Upon arrival, Dat allegedly grabbed the 12-year-old by the hair and repeatedly punched him in the face. Despite the boy's pleas for mercy, Dat continued beating him until apartment security personnel and bystanders intervened.

The boy was hospitalized in a state of shock and required seven stitches.
