Authorities later said he had been bitten by a venomous snake after killing her.
According to Hai Phong City police on Feb. 2, officers in Viet Khe Commune received a report from local residents on Dec. 27, 2025, after a woman, 39, was found dead at her home in Lai Xuan 11 Hamlet under suspicious circumstances.
Lying next to her was her husband, Nguyen Minh Tuan, 43, who was unconscious, foaming at the mouth and suffering multiple wounds on his left leg, showing signs consistent with venom exposure. He was taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
After more than a month of investigation, police identified Tuan as the prime suspect in his wife’s death.
Investigators said Tuan admitted that on the night of Dec. 26, 2025, the couple had an argument that escalated. He allegedly restrained his wife using a blanket, pressing it against her neck until she stopped breathing.
Authorities said that after the incident, Tuan went to the garden behind the house, where he was bitten by a venomous snake. He later crawled back inside before losing consciousness.
Hai Phong City police said the case remains under investigation.
