Three men are facing trial in Ho Chi Minh City for allegedly defrauding luxury car owners by offering to sell their vehicles but instead pawning them to pocket the money.

Phan Cong Khanh, 31, also known as "Khanh Supper," has been indicted by the People's Procuracy, the prosecutor's office, for "fraudulent appropriation of property."

Mohamach Da Pha, 29, Khanh's accomplice, faces the same charge along with additional one of "abuse of trust to appropriate property."

Another suspect, Huynh Xuan Van, remains at large and the police are on the lookout for him.

Khanh and Van founded K-Super Trading and Services Co., Ltd., in 2019 for buying and selling luxury cars.

Khanh was the company's legal representative, Van was deputy director and Pha was a collaborator.

Khanh owns the K.Supper showroom at 6 Tran Hung Dao Street in the former District 1 and now Ben Thanh Ward.

After incurring business losses, Khanh and Van conspired to misappropriate other people's assets to repay their debts.

Khanh learned that a woman named Huong wanted to sell her McLaren, valued at VND7.1 billion (US$280,000), and persuaded her to leave the car at his showroom for selling.

In May 2023 Khanh and Van instructed Pha to pawn the McLaren for VND3 billion to redeem a previously pawned Mercedes G63 belonging to another victim.

Huong visited the showroom and discovered Khanh owed money to many people and had pawned her car.

She reported to the police.

It turned out she was not the only victim.

In 2022 Khanh sold a Mercedes Brabus G800 worth VND24 billion to a client in Phu Quoc who also owned a McLaren.

In June 2023 Khanh called the client and requested to "borrow" both the McLaren and Brabus G800 for a showroom launch event.

At that time Khanh needed money to pay off debts, and he and Van told a client that their company had a Mercedes Brabus G800 for sale, and showed the person its documents.

Van, as deputy director, signed a sale contract with the client to sell the car at VND24.5 billion, and received a deposit of VND4 billion. Two weeks later the client transferred the remaining, and Van took the money and fled.

Only two months later, after Khanh was summoned by the police, did the owner in Phu Quoc discover his Brabus G800 had been sold.

Earlier in 2023 Pha sold a BMW worth VND1.8 billion to a client, but asked to borrow the vehicle.

Knowing Van needed VND1 billion to repay debts, he pawned the car and gave the money to him.

On July 8, 2023, Pha turned himself in to the police. Two days later the police arrested Khanh.

Both Khanh and Pha have confessed to their crimes.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court is set to hear the case soon.
