Chinese actor Marcus Li, known for his role in the television series "Go Go Squid!", was detained by Chaoyang District police in Beijing following an altercation over a car parking dispute.

According to reports by The Paper, Li, 28, had been involved in an argument with a man over parking spaces before the Lunar New Year holiday, the police said Thursday.

Li claimed that his path was obstructed by the parked car. After reportedly consuming alcohol, he allegedly vandalized the vehicle by breaking its license plate and kicking the rear-view mirrors. Li later admitted to the act at the police station.

The owner of the damaged car stated that Li initially promised to compensate him for the damage. However, when the repair costs were estimated at CNY90,000 (US$12,346), Li reportedly ceased all communication with the car owner. The matter has since been brought before a court.

The car owner acknowledged that he had improperly parked his car and had already paid a fine of CNY200, though he maintained that his car had not obstructed Li's path.

Marcus Li, a Beijing Film Academy graduate, made his film debut in 2018.

He gained wider recognition for his role in "Go Go Squid!" in 2019, alongside actors Yang Zi and Li Xian.
