A Chinese company director in Binh Duong Province in southern Vietnam was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday for the murder of a pregnant colleague following a work-related dispute.

The Binh Duong People's Court handed down the sentence to Yang Zhong Wu, 48, after finding him guilty of killing a 31-year-old accountant on March 29 last year.

Yang, who suspected the victim of falsifying documents to embezzle company funds, confronted her at the office, leading to a heated exchange of accusations.

During the altercation, Yang stabbed the accountant with a knife. When she attempted to flee, he pursued her and continued the assault, resulting in her death.

Yang then fled the scene by car. He abandoned his vehicle about 10 km away near a rubber plantation and continued on foot to the main road, where he boarded another vehicle to escape to Gia Lai Province, around 500 km away.

He turned himself in at a police station in Gia Lai the following day.
