A British traveler is facing jail time after allegedly stealing over S$2,900 (US$2,244) worth of perfumes, wine and cosmetics from Singapore's Changi Airport.

Authorities were alerted on April 15 to a theft at the Shilla Perfume and Cosmetic store inside the busy airport terminal, the police said on May 5, The Straits Times reported.

Security footage reportedly captured the 32-year-old man entering the store and leaving shortly after, carrying a bottle of perfume he had not paid for. The shop supervisor discovered the missing perfume during a routine inventory check, prompting an immediate investigation, Mothership reported.

Further investigation by airport authorities identified the suspect, leading to his arrest.

If convicted, the British man could face a prison sentence of up to seven years. He is expected to appear in court on May 7.

Changi Airport, consistently ranked among the world's best airports, offers a variety of shopping services, including a 24/7 shopping concierge, online shopping and duty-free shopping.
