An award-winning English teacher in Thailand has been arrested for allegedly molesting at least eight students aged 8-10 at his school.

The police also found around 20,000 files involving child pornography and obscene media, including boys and girls, belonging to the teacher, the Bangkok Post reported.

Trairong Phiewphan, head of the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), said the Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children group was notified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the U.S. that images of a sexually abused boy had been uploaded onto a platform via an IP address in Thailand.

Authorities eventually found the suspect to be a teacher at a school in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. They later raided a house on March 5 and arrested the teacher, identified as Kritsana.

Among the data in his mobile phone and 2 TB worth of external hard disk were around 20,000 obscene media files involving both male and female children, as well as child pornography created by Kritsana himself. Eight child victims had been identified by the police so far, all of them elementary school students aged 8-10.

Kritsana had previously received an award to honor teachers with results at the district level. He is now being charged with possessing child pornography. He has reportedly admitted to the charges, adding that he has committed the crime for over seven years since he was hired as an English teacher.

He admitted to abusing children in the school’s classrooms and library, and he would take photos and record videos. He would give money to his victims, telling them not to tell anyone.

An investigation is ongoing.
