Seven people have been arrested over a violent smash-and-grab at Kim Hung Jewelry in San Jose that left the store's 88-year-old owner hospitalized after a brutal attack.

Police said the Sept. 5 robbery involved at least 10 suspects who rammed a vehicle into the storefront on Aborn Road before storming inside and stealing thousands of dollars in items.

The Vietnamese owner was shoved to the ground during the attack and later suffered a stroke. He has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

"From the very moment these cowards fled Kim Hung Jewelry, we have not stopped," Assistant Police Chief Brian Shab said at a Friday briefing. "And today, that persistence has delivered results," Shab said, CBS News reported.

In a massive operation involving more than 100 officers and four SWAT teams, arrests were carried out across the Bay Area and Central Valley in recent weeks.

Police identified the suspects as 21-year-old Angel Herrera of Pacifica, 31-year-old Toddisha Mayfield of San Leandro, 23-year-old Zakhari Blue-Gordon of East Palo Alto, 19-year-old Tom Donegan of Manteca, 18-year-old Jacques Samuel of San Francisco, 18-year-old Cisco Lutu of South San Francisco, and 21-year-old Amari Green of San Francisco.

During the searches, officers also seized a firearm, a loaded magazine, ammunition, and what authorities described as "large quantities" of suspected cocaine.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan condemned the attack: "Seven people are in custody, seven suspects who brutalized an elderly man, destroyed a family business and terrorized an entire community. This was not a crime of desperation; this was organized theft and violence. The kind of smash-and-grab attack we've seen spreading across the Bay Area and the entire state."

Mahan said the investigation is ongoing and urged the remaining suspects to surrender. "To those still hiding, we are coming for you," Pleasanton Weekly reported.
