A Da Lat golf course proposal to add parking lots and a mall to its facility is encouraged by authorities despite its location on forestland near the town's famed lake.

The People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province in the Central Highlands has announced its support for DL Royal company’s plan to build two 7-level parking basements and a mall at its golf course in the resort town of Da Lat.

DL Royal owns several tourism facilities in the former French hill station already.

But the People’s Committee has added that the proposal needs to be "carefully researched," and should not be allowed to change the appearance of the Cu golf course's 62.4 ha of grounds and nearby Xuan Huong Lake, a centerpiece of the mountain town.

Previously, DL Royal company proposed two projects at the Cu golf course: an entertainment and resort complex, and the two aforementioned parking basements. The project would be adjacent to Xuan Huong Lake, located near the Tran Quoc Toan-Dinh Tien Hoang intersection.

The second project is the expansion of a Tran Quoc Toan street section, from the Tran Nhan Tong intersection to the Dinh Tien Hoang intersection. After completion, the project would be handed over to Da Lat authorities for management.

The company said the projects would provide parking spaces for cars and buses to reduce congestion during the weekends and holidays. They would also serve as tourist attractions, according to the company.

The projects would take up around 15.6 ha of land currently reserved for forests and sport facilities. The company has asked authorities to allow the conversion of the land’s purpose for the project.

The estimated costs of these projects have not been announced.

The Lam Dong People’s Committee has instructed relevant authorities to complete the adjustments for the planning of the project at the Cu golf course, and to report those adjustments to the province before evaluation and approval.

Da Lat, spanning over 393 km2, had a population of around 237,000 as of 2022. It is a popular tourist destination, but the sheer number of visitors has resulted in a shortage of parking spaces, making its downtown area frequently congested during the weekends and the holiday.
