Two Chinese men got stuck in an elevator on the 20th floor of a hotel in Nha Trang for an hour, prompting a wall to be broken down to save them.

Two men aged 68 and 70 took the hotel elevator on Hong Bang Street to move to the lobby from the 20th floor on Saturday morning.

When reaching between the 19th and 20th floors, the elevator stopped, leaving them stuck in a cabin about 2 sq.m wide.

Hotel staff received the alarm and tried to open the door but failed so they called for firefighting help. Seven soldiers were then dispatched to the hotel.

Because the elevator was stuck between two floors, the task was a complex one. Eventually, rescuers used equipment to cut through walls from the 20th floor so they could approach the men from above the elevator.

It took over an hour for the two Chinese men, who were unhurt, to get out safely.
