His body was found Saturday by locals near Mo Thay Nai beach in Quy Hai village, Long Hai Commune, and was promptly brought ashore, with the incident reported to the police.

Authorities confirmed that Jiang had entered Vietnam on Oct. 10 through Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City before heading to Phu Quy Island, where he was staying at the Chill Chill Hotel, located about one km from where his body was found. Jiang had planned to stay on the island until early December.

Hotel staff noted that Jiang often swam and fished alone. He left the hotel around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, equipped with a fishing spear, but didn’t return. Later that day, the hotel received news of his accident.

Phu Quy Island, covering over 16 square km and located 56 nautical miles (104 km) from Phan Thiet City, is celebrated for its scenic landscapes that attract many visitors. Just two weeks prior, another accident occurred when a group of six young men from Da Lat was swept away while paddleboarding, resulting in one fatality.
