M. Kumar, police chief of Johor, said the 22-year-old Chinese would be charged for kidnapping with the intent of wrongful confinement, a charge that may result in a jail sentence of up to 7 years, The Straits Times reported.
The student, another Chinese, was allegedly kidnapped in Singapore on Nov. 24, before entering Malaysia with the suspect the same day, The Star reported.
The father of the kidnapped student on Nov. 25 told Singaporean police that his daughter went missing as she did not go to school. The missing person report was also informed to Malaysian police.
The girl was later found by Malaysian police in Kuantan on Nov. 26.
