Da Nang police opened a criminal probe Tuesday into two Chinese citizens for stealing VND1.5 billion ($64,900) from four company safes.

Ban Wei Bing, 38, and Ban Shan Ke, 44, will face charges of theft of property.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Nam Hai, Head of the Criminal Police Department at the central city, said the two suspects took money from the safes at four company headquarters in Da Nang between June 20 to July 22.

On October 16, they were arrested while driving on Hai Van Pass on their way out of Da Nang.

Da Nang police also said they have expanded the investigation because there are four more suspects who are in the same gang. Ban Wei Bing is the gang leader, they said.

The modus operandi of the gang was to use motorbikes during the day to survey and locate target companies, breaking into them later and looting their safes. The group hid the stolen property and their tools in a cave on the Hai Van Pass, police said.
