According to a CBS News report, 45-year-old Tammy Carvey from Wyandotte, Michigan, won a $50,000 prize in the Powerball drawing on Sept. 6. Thanks to the Power Play option, her prize was doubled.
"I only play Powerball when the jackpot gets up there, and the jackpot was over $1 billion, so I bought a ticket," Carvey was quoted as saying by Michigan Lottery.
"I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played on my ticket," she said.
"When I checked the results, I saw I had matched four white balls and the Powerball, so I knew I had won," she said.
Carvey searched on Google and found out that the prize was $50,000. However, it was not until she logged into her Michigan Lottery account that she realized she had selected the Power Play option, and her prize had actually been doubled to $100,000.
"My husband and I were in total disbelief."
The Michigan Lottery confirmed that Carvey recently visited the headquarters to claim her prize and plans to use the money to pay off her home loan.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are sold in 45 U.S. states, as well as Washington D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. In Michigan, tickets are available statewide and online. If one chooses the correct Power Play number, the prize value can be multiplied up to 10 times.
