Police found over 10 tons of stale lard Saturday evening after they stopped and inspected a truck in the central province of Nghe An.

Vu Quang Tien, a resident of Hanoi's rural district Thuong Tin, was driving the truck through Quynh Yen Commune in Nghe An's Quynh Luu District when local police stopped him for checking.

They found more than 10 tons of stinking lard with no documentation of its origins.

Further investigation found two more tons of stale lard and many tools used to process fat in the commune.

The unsafe lard was collected and recycled by Bui Thi Tan, 46, and Nguyen Van Trung, 34, in Quynh Luu District. After processing the stale lard, they rented vehicles to transport it to some northern provinces.

The police are continuing their investigation and coordinating with related units to destroy large quantities of unsafe lard.
