Four returnees from Canada and the U.K. were confirmed Vietnam’s new Covid-19 cases Thursday evening, taking the nation’s active case tally to 124.

Patients numbered 1301 and 1302, a 49-year-old female resident of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and a 24-year-old male from Ho Chi Minh City, landed last Monday at the Van Don Airport on Vietnam Airlines flight VN5028 from Canada.

Both tested positive for the novel coronavirus Tuesday and are being treated at the Ha Nam General Hospital in the northern eponymous province.

Patients numbered 1303 and 1304, aged 28 and 67, are male residents of Hanoi. They landed November 6 at the Van Don Airport on Vietnam Airlines flight VN56 from the U.K.

They are being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi after sample test results came back positive Thursday.

Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally now stands at 1,304 cases with 1,142 recoveries, of these 18 announced Thursday, and 35 deaths. Many of the fatalities were elderly patients with underlying conditions like diabetes and kidney failure.

Of the active cases, 23 have tested negative at least once. Over 16,000 are in quarantine nationwide, and no community transmission has been recorded in over two months.
