The British Navy's offshore patrol vessel HMS Spey arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday for a five-day visit.

The visit marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the U.K. and Vietnam, Iain Frew, the British ambassador to Vietnam, was quoted as saying in a press release by his embassy.

It is the fourth British naval vessel to visit Vietnam in the last five years.

Frew said: "The U.K. and Vietnam share many common interests, including maritime security, sustainable development, and a desire to see our economies grow and trade more together. I am confident that this visit will further deepen our strong relationship."

Over the next five days, officers from the ship are expected to participate in several activities, including expertise and cultural exchange with local communities.

The HMS Spey, designed to perform multiple missions, is currently on a five-year mission in the Indo-Pacific region.
