After driving for many hours in Thailand, a Belgian tourist stopped at a gas station and fell asleep in his car, and a dead battery nearly cost him his life.

An employee at a convenience store at a gas station in the Mueang District of Kamphaeng Phet Province noticed someone trapped inside a parked BMW and called for help on Friday, according to Khaosod.

Inside the car was Belgian tourist Roger Bert Decker, 41.

The store employee informed the Kawphab Rescue Kamphaengphet team after seeing Decker trying unsuccessfully to open the door of the BMW.

The rescue team arrived and instructed Decker to try different methods to unlock the car door, but all attempts failed. After two hours, Decker appeared exhausted and had difficulty breathing, prompting the rescuers to break the car window to free him, as reported by Thai Tiger.

Decker explained that he had been driving from Chiang Rai Province to Chonburi Province, a distance of 890 km. He stopped at the gas station after driving nearly 500 km to rest. He lay in the car, turned on the air conditioning, and fell asleep, leading to the car battery eventually draining.

The rescue team reported the incident to the police, who arranged transportation for the Belgian man to continue his journey, as his car required repairs.
