To celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany, Bayer showcased its Better Life Farming (BLF) initiative in Dak Lak in Vietnam's Central Highlands, alongside key partners including the Dak Lak Agricultural Extension Center (AEC), Netafim, Yara, Simexco Dak Lak, and the Western Highlands Agriculture & Forestry Science Institute (WASI). The event was graced by the presence of German Consul General Dr. Josefine Wallat, who emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture and international partnerships in tackling global challenges.
Launched in 2024, the initial phase of BLF supports smallholder coffee and durian farmers in transitioning to regenerative farming through one-stop solution hubs and advisory services. The goal is to boost farmer livelihoods while promoting long-term environmental resilience amid intensifying climate change.

Vietnam is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, with extreme weather conditions threatening crop health and productivity. Effective pest and disease management, advanced crop protection, root care, soil nutrition optimization, and precision irrigation are now more important than ever. Public-private partnerships are key to implementing these solutions at scale.
Kg Krishnamurthy, Country Commercial Lead, Crop Science Division, Bayer Vietnam, shared: "Sustainable agriculture is both a necessity and a shared responsibility. We fully support Vietnam’s national action plan for agricultural development through 2030 and its vision for 2050. Our focus on innovation and sustainability aims to build a resilient farming sector for current and future generations."
As part of its broader efforts, Bayer also introduced the Women Ambassador in Sustainable Coffee Cultivation Community, in collaboration with Dak LaK AEC and Simexco Dak Lak, a leading Vietnamese coffee exporter. This initiative empowers women farmers by providing essential agricultural and healthcare knowledge, enabling them to thrive in their roles and contribute to community development.

According to Hoang Thi Ai Lien, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Agricultural Extension Center, the province currently cultivates over 214,000 hectares of coffee, generating income for more than 300,000 farming households, with over 70% of agricultural labor being women. However, despite their significant involvement, women often lack decision-making power in agricultural activities.
Lien commented during the launch of the Women Ambassador in Sustainable Coffee Cultivation Community: "Our overarching objective is to position the Dak Lak coffee brand as one that is widely known and respected, not just for its exceptional quality and taste, but also for its embodiment of responsible, equality, and sustainable practices."
Maximillian Rummert, Managing Director of Bayer Vietnam, added: "This initiative is part of Bayer's dedication to supporting and advancing the role of women in agriculture. Through this platform, we hope the female farmers will become more confident and active in reaching their full potential. As they achieve success, we believe these women will inspire others around them, driving sustainable development in the community."
The 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations is being marked by a series of cultural, economic, and political events that reflect the deep and evolving partnership between the two nations. Bayer's initiatives serve as a prime example of successful bilateral cooperation and signal the growing potential for future collaboration across multiple sectors.
Dr. Wallat noted the evolving strength of Vietnam-Germany ties: "The partnership between Vietnam and Germany has grown stronger over the years. We are committed to enhancing our collaboration in various sectors, including agriculture, to address the challenges we face together. Fifty years mark a strong milestone, and we are delighted to see how German businesses contribute to the sustainable economic and community transformation in Vietnam."
