The Bangladesh Navy’s guided missile corvette BNS Prottoy arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday for a four-day friendly visit.

The vessel has Colonel Mirza Mohammad Mehedi Hassan at the helm and a crew 23 officers and 116 sailors.

The visit aims to enhance cooperation, mutual understanding and trust between the Vietnamese and Bangladeshi armies and naval forces, the Vietnam People’s Army newspaper reported.

The visitors are scheduled to call on city leaders and the Navy High Command, Region 2, and take a city tour. The command supervises waters off Vietnam's southern coast.

BNS Prottoy is a stealth surface warfare guided missile corvette built by China.

It is 90 meters (300 feet) long, has a beam of 11 meters and a draught of 4.4 meters and can reach a speed of 25 knots, or 46 kph.

With air defense and coastal attack capabilities, it has been in service since 2016.
