Vietnam's Health Ministry Tuesday accepted 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by Austria.

The vaccines were delivered under projects being implemented by the Austrian government, other agencies and businesses to provide medical equipment to Vietnam.

Austrian envoy Hans Peter Glanzer noted at the handover ceremony that Vietnam "has made great progress in its mass vaccination campaign."

Deputy health minister Do Xuan Tuyen said Vietnam has so far received more than 135 million doses from different sources, including aid and commercial contracts.

Of these, more than 100 million have been administered, and almost 36 million people have got two shots, he said.

At least 17 cities and provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, have started vaccinating children aged 12-17. Until now, 1.4 million doses have been administered to children in this age group.
