A 57-year-old Australian tourist was hospitalized after concrete fell from a high-rise condominium in Pattaya, raising building safety concerns in Thailand's booming resort city.

The incident happened on May 28 at a condo in the Khao Phra Tamnak area of Bang Lamung District, the Bangkok Post reported. The man, identified as Paul Smith, was in the building's car park when concrete panels from the 37th floor came crashing down.

Emergency responders found Smith with injuries to his head, right arm and leg. He was given first aid at the scene before being transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Several motorbikes parked nearby were also damaged by the debris.

According to Thaiger, the fallen slabs were decorative concrete panels on the 37th floor that had shown signs of damage before the incident. However, they had not been repaired.

Police said an investigation is underway.

Pattaya, a popular destination for international tourists and expats in Thailand, has seen rapid real estate development in recent years.
