Ha Anh Tuan, vice chairman of the Dong Da District People's Committee, on Thursday said workers have found the remains about a meter underground over the past two weeks, along Alley 167 of Tay Son Street.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the remains.
If no one comes to collect the remains, authorities will relocate them to appropriate cemeteries. During the relocation, the construction of the drainage system is suspended.
This was not the first time that human remains were found near Tay Son Street. In 2015, construction workers also found around 200 unidentified human remains while building drainage systems on the pavements of Tay Son Street. The remains had been relocated to a cemetery in outlying Ba Vi District.
Locals said Quang Trung Ward, home to part of Tay Son Street, used to have a large cemetery with thousands of graves.
When the Trade Union University was constructed on Tay Son, several graves had to be relocated.
