Richard Davies, 49, and his wife Faye Stevenson-Davies, 43, have become two-time National Lottery millionaires, beating staggering one-in-24-trillion odds.

The Welsh couple claimed their second £1 million (US$1.3 million) prize this week after a chain of unlikely draws turned a free "Lucky Dip" into another life-changing win, CNN reported.

"We knew the odds of it happening again were outrageous," Stevenson-Davies said in a statement released by the National Lottery. "But we're proof that if you believe, anything is possible," BBC reported.

Their first jackpot came in June 2018 through the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker game. Despite already becoming millionaires, the couple continued buying tickets, holding onto a quiet hope lightning might strike again.

This time, the path to victory was unusually drawn out. Davies explained that matching two numbers in one Lotto draw earned them a free Lucky Dip for the next game, a process that repeated across four consecutive draws until the winning ticket finally landed.

"When you match two numbers in the Lotto draw, you automatically win a Lucky Dip for the next game," Davies said. "That's what's happened to us. We matched two numbers and won a free Lucky Dip ... That put us into the next draw and so on, until the winning draw."

Experts estimate the chance of winning the lottery twice at around one in 24 trillion.

Despite the windfall, the couple say they have no plans to stop working. Davies said he will continue delivering parcels seven days a week through the Christmas season, while Stevenson-Davies plans to keep supporting her mental health clients, even on Christmas Day.

They are also taking their time deciding how to use their latest prize.

While their story is extraordinary, it is not entirely unique. In July, a man in Massachusetts won the Powerball twice in one night, taking home $2 million. In 2020, a Colorado player also struck the jackpot twice in a single month using the same numbers he had played for three decades.
