Vietnam's active Covid-19 tally hit 126 after the Health Ministry confirmed Saturday evening a man returning from Germany had tested positive for the virus.

"Patient 1306", a 38-year-old man from HCMC's District 3, touched down at Van Don International Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province on Vietnam Airlines flight VN5036 from Germany on November 19.

He entered centralized quarantine at a provincial military camp and had his blood samples taken for Covid-19 testing. Test results from the Quang Ninh Center for Disease Control on Friday confirmed him to be infected with the novel coronavirus.

The man is currently being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

On Friday evening a 38-year-old man from Hanoi’s Dong Da District boarding the same flight was also confirmed infected with novel coronavirus.

Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 1,306 cases, including 1,142 recoveries and 35 deaths. Many of the fatalities were elderly patients with underlying conditions like diabetes and kidney failure. Three people who died after being declared Covid-19 free have not been included in the list of recoveries or deaths.

Of the 126 active cases, 25 have tested negative at least once.

The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed over 1.3 million lives worldwide and over 58 million infections.
