Bad weather forced Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways to cancel and reschedule a number of flights to and from Tuy Hoa and Con Dao airports on Sunday.

Vietnam's national flagship carrier Vietnam Airlines said 19 flights from HCMC to Con Dao Island and four flights from Hanoi and HCMC to Tuy Hoa in the south-central province of Phu Yen were canceled Sunday.

The carrier announced it will continue to cancel the VN1898 flight between Con Dao and HCMC on Monday.

The airline says that bad weather is expected to last until December 20.

Flights to and from Tuy Hoa and Con Dao may continue to change their operating plans. Vietnam Airlines will continue to monitor the weather situation and notify passengers right away if there are any changes.

Bamboo Airline canceled nine flights between Hanoi and HCMC to and from Con Dao and Tuy Hoa.

In addition, 23 additional flights operated by this airline were delayed, primarily on routes from HCMC to Phu Quoc Island, Van Don, and Can Tho airports.

According to an airline spokesman, the flight itinerary will be adjusted appropriately and safely based on the weather condition.

Some flights of budget carrier Vietjet from South Korea, HCMC and Hanoi had to land at Can Tho and HCMC airports during the day because of bad weather.

According to the Southern Hydro-meteorological Center, the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea) is experiencing strong winds and violent waters due to the effects of a cold continental high pressure and turbulent East Winds.

All ferry and high-speed boat services connecting Phu Quoc resort island of southern Kien Giang Province to the mainland were suspended due to rough seas Sunday.
