Bystanders quickly rushed to help, attempting to free the victims by knocking on the car's doors. Rescuers managed to bring all passengers ashore by 4 p.m., but seven people were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were taken to hospital for treatment, according to Viet Linh, a member of the FAS Angel volunteer rescue team.
At the crash site, the car lay overturned in the ditch, nearly two meters below the road surface, with water submerging most of its body. A damaged section of railing marked the point of impact. The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along Highway 21 for several kilometers.
