The body of a six-year-old Vietnamese boy has been found near Ti Top Island, taking the death toll from the Ha Long Bay cruise disaster to 36.

His body was found on Monday, two days after the Vinh Xanh 58 capsized with 49 people aboard, including 46 tourists, near Dau Go Cave at around 1:30 p.m. Only 10 people survived, while three more remain missing.

Quang Ninh authorities have deployed nearly 350 personnel and 50 ships and boats from the military, police, navy, and Coast Guard for a massive combing effort.

The operation now covers a nine-kilometer radius around the site of the sinking.

The Vinh Xanh 58 embarked on a sightseeing tour around Ha Long Bay’s famous landmarks like Cho Da Islet, Dinh Huong Islet, Ga Choi Islet, Sung Sot Cave, Luon Cave, and Ti Top Island at 12:55 p.m., and was scheduled to return to port in the afternoon.

But disaster struck in the form of a sudden storm, which flipped the vessel over and threw the passengers and crew into the sea.
