57 workers at a Taiwanese company in northern Quang Ninh Province were hospitalized Wednesday after showing symptoms like headaches, nausea and breathing difficulties.

At around 9:30 a.m., dozens of workers at the Vega Balls company in the Dong Mai industrial park began to display signs of fatigue, and so the company allowed them to rest. The firm then brought 33 workers to the Uong Bi Vietnam-Sweden Hospital, while 24 others were sent to the medical center of Quang Yen Town. Gas poisoning was suspected as the cause.

A representative of the Quang Yen People's Committee said Wednesday night all of the hospitalized workers were conscious, but still staying at the medical facilities. Authorities are trying to figure out the cause of the incident.

The Vega Balls company is Taiwan-funded and manufactures sport equipment. The firm has operated at the Dong Mai industrial park since 2016, and this has been the first time an incident happened that resulted in dozens of workers being hospitalized.
