A native in Luc Ngan District of the northern province of Bac Giang, currently Vietnam’s Covid-19 epicenter, she died of "severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock, multi-organ failure on the background of hypertension and type 2 diabetes," the Ministry of Health announced Tuesday afternoon.
She was confirmed with Covid-19 on May 16 via mass testing.
Her condition kept getting worse during treatment and she must rely on a ventilator on June 2.
Also, she must receive continuous dialysis aside from treatment for her blood clotting disorder.
On Monday, she fell into a deep coma and passed away the same day.
Ho Chi Minh City reported a death of a 57-year-old woman whose samples tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, but the Health Ministry has not announced this as a Covid-19 death.
Vietnam has so far recorded 5,951 cases in the new wave that started six weeks ago. Bac Giang has the highest number of infections, at 3,288, as of Tuesday noon.
