Bomb disposal experts in the south central Binh Thuan Province have removed a 340-kilogram bomb left from the Vietnam War, carrying 183 kilograms of explosives.

The bomb, 2.16 meters long and 0.4 meter in diameter was found in a rice field of Sung Nhon Commune in Duc Linh District of the south-central province.

According to the provincial military command, the MK-117 bomb was discovered by local farmers.

The engineering force unearthed the bomb, detonated it, and found the explosives inside Thursday afternoon.

The Vietnam War ended more than 40 years ago, but around 800,000 tons of unexploded ordnance (UXO) remain scattered across the country, according to government data.
