Vietnam confirmed its 37th Covid-19 death Monday as a 34-year-old man succumbed to Covid complications and other conditions including brain injury in Hanoi.

"Patient 3055" got infected with the new coronavirus when staying at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

Residing in northern Bac Ninh Province, he was sent to the hospital on April 24 following a traffic accident that caused him brain injury.

He was announced a Covid-19 patient on May 6 as the hospital became a Covid-19 hotspot itself and was put under lockdown on May 5.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that he has died of severe pneumonia due to Covid-19, brain injury, and meningitis.

He has made the 37th Covid-19 death in Vietnam, following the 36th death recorded last Saturday - an 89-year-old woman from Bac Ninh.

Vietnam's previously recorded 35 coronavirus deaths were all associated with a Covid-19 outbreak in Da Nang in July and August last year.

Many of them were elderly patients with underlying conditions like diabetes or kidney failure.

The nation has been coping with a new Covid-19 wave that broke out on April 27 and has so far seen 1,177 cases in 27 cities and provinces.

Among the patients, 336 are in Bac Giang and 252 are in Bac Ninh.
