A 78-kilometer road along the beach in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province neighboring Ho Chi Minh City would be upgraded to serve both tourism and transportation purposes.

As proposed by the local Department of Transport, Provincial Road No. 994 connecting resort town Vung Tau with Binh Chau Commune in Xuyen Moc District would be expanded to six lanes from the existing two.

Expected to cost VND7.15 trillion ($308.38 million), four lanes would be introduced by 2040 and six in 2050 to boost tourism development in the province and better serve transport demand.

With six lanes, the width of the road would be increased from 28 to 42 meters.

The province received 15.55 million tourists in 2019, up 15.19 percent against 2018.
